About Me

A little information about me

My name is Wesley Newton. I am 29 years old and live in Cherokee County Georgia, where I live with my beautiful wife and three crazy dogs. I was homeschooled by my mother all throughout elementary school, middle school, and high school. I attended American Military University where I just recently received an Associate's Degree in Computer Technology and plan to continue my education and work towards earning a Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity.

I am a veteran of the Georgia Army National Guard, where I served as a Cannon Crewmember and Gunner in a Field Artillery Battalion. In 2013-2014 I deployed to western Afghanistan, where I refined my conflict resolution, interpersonal skills and problem solving skills.

Upon Returning from Afghanistan I briefly worked at Home Depot as an overnight freight employee for a few months before that seasonal position was eliminated. While working at Home Depot I was afforded the opportunity to begin establishing my customer service skills.

After leaving Home Depot I began working at Best Buy as a part time Customer Service Associate. While working at Best Buy I refined my customer service skills as well as basic information technology troubleshooting skills for customers that requested it. In addition to basic customer service tasks, I provided recommendations on products that would fit customers requirements for intended use and would provide an adequate solution for them.

In 2016 I left Best Buy and got hired on with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. I began my time with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office as a jail deputy in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. While working in the jail I began to develop further interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills as well as deescalation skills while managing direct supervision pods with up to 90 inmates at a time. In 2019 I transferred to the Uniformed Patrol Division within the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office to work as a patrol officer. While working in the Uniformed Patrol Division I have investigated crimes of a wide variety, varying from simple civil disputes all the way up to aggravated assaults.

With all of the technology that is used in law enforcement, I began to establish myself as the go-to person to troubleshoot information technology systems for my fellow law enforcement officers when the IT department was unavailable. After realizing my passion for information technology, I began taking classes at American Military University and earned an Associate's Degree in Computer Technology.

From here I plan to continue my pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity. I currently do not have any IT certifications, but am studying for CompTIA A+ and Juniper JNCIA-Junos and intend on completing those as well as CompTIA Network+, Security+, the rest of the Juniper certifications as well as Cisco CCNA.

I am hoping to get a job where I can further my information technology experience and education. Thank you for reading and visiting my website!
